Setting up a CNAME record for each of the domain names or subdomains you have within a hosting account will enable you to forward it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain will lose all its records - A, MX and so on, and will take the records of the domain address it is being directed to. In this light, you simply can't create a CNAME record to redirect your domain name to a third-party company and keep a working e-mail service with the first hosting company. Also, it is essential to know that a CNAME record is always a string of words rather than a number as it is often wrongly identified as the A record of the Internet domain being forwarded. One of the major uses of a CNAME record is to forward a domain that you own through one company to the servers of some other company in case you have created an Internet site with the latter. That way, the Internet site will appear under your own domain address, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

If you have a shared web hosting plan from our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it'll take you a few mouse clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted within your account from the Hepsia CP that comes with every single plan and adding a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which is CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the change. If you've never added this type of record before, you will discover a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll assist you with this task. If you have set up a website using another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, for instance Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a few mouse clicks in your CP.
